SUMMARY:Guided Hike on Deadmans Bay Path
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided hike!\nPreregistration for this outing is required. Use the link on the left to register for this event.\nMeet Location: Meet at the Freshwater Bay parking lot, on Blackhead Road, (the road to Cape Spear.) We will then car pool to Fort Amherst to start the hike. Link to directions. ( https://goo.gl/maps/S5cQRWjtk61tnjwH7 )\nFreshwater Bay Path: This path is one of the more popular paths of the East Coast Trail system. We will h8ike up Southside hills for a different view of Signal Hill and the city. We will stop at Gunners Cove before crossing the barachois and circling Leamy Brook on the way back. Some of the views on this trail are amazing. It’s recommended for beginner and experienced hikers. Appropriate clothing, hiking footwear and preparation required. Anticipate slippery conditions, especially with rain. Exercise caution in all areas.\nPath: Deadmans Bay Path; Fort Amherst to Freshwater Bay Parking Lot via Barachois and Leamy’s Brook\nDate: Sunday, September 17\nMeet Time:  8:45 am\nMeet Location: Blackhead Road Parking Lot ( https://goo.gl/maps/S5cQRWjtk61tnjwH7 )\nDuration: 4-5 hours\nDistance: 10 km\nRating: Moderate to Difficult\nLeader: Terry Horwood  (terryhorwood1959@gmail.com) 709-687-8081\nSweep: Gerry Ryall, Maureen Lymburner\nNotes\n\nPlease be on time or a bit early.\nBefore the hike, please privately advise the hike leader if you have any concerns, health issues, or severe allergies (this is not mandatory).\nWear sturdy footwear. Hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended. Sneakers of any type are unsuited to wet terrain or rock-hopping and offer no ankle support.\nCarry an adequate backpack to carry water, fruit juice or other fluids (a suggestion of 300 ml/hour per person). DO NOT bring frozen water, it will NOT thaw out during the hike. Food items for a snack/lunch. We will be stopping for a small lunch break.\nA walking stick/pole/staff helps with balance and reduces the risk of falls and sprains.\nFor safety reasons, it’s always a good idea to carry a whistle.\nWear layered clothing suitable for the weather. This would include a hat/cap, gloves, warm fleece, jacket/coat/wind breaker as temperatures would be a bit cooler/colder along the coastline at this time of year. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm with an SPF factor are highly recommended.\nThis is a group hike and participants are advised to stay with the designated hike leader and co-leader, and group for safety reasons.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note this event is weather-dependent. If the hike leader determines the hike must be cancelled, it will be posted on the East Coast Trail’s Facebook page by 7:00 am on the morning of the hike.\n\n\n\n
