SUMMARY:Guided Hike on Cobblers Path
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided hike!\nPreregistration for this outing is required. Register by following the link on the left.\nPath: Cobblers Path\nDate: Saturday, October 14\nMeet Time:  8:45 am\nMeet Location: end of Doran’s Lane\nDuration: 3 hours\nDistance: 7 km\nRating: Moderate\nLeader: Terry Horwood (terryhorwood1959@gmail.com) 709-687-8081\nMeet Location: Meet at the end of Dorans Lane (off Marine Drive in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove). We will then carpool to the parking lot on Cobblers Cresent off Red Cliff Road. This will be a one-way hike. We will hike back to Doran Lane.\nCobblers Path: A popular hike partially boardwalked over a wet area to Torbay Point (a long jutting land mass forming the southern edge of Tor Bay). Passes through woods and down into a valley, stepping across Cobbler Brook, then a steep climb up to a ridge leading to Red Cliff. This path was formerly known as Red Cliff Path. Whale sightings are likely in summer. It also features “The Cobbler”, five finger-like rock formations at Shooting Cove, a view of Logy Bay from atop Red Cliff, and remnants of Pinetree Line Radar Station on Red Cliff.\nNotes\n\nPlease be on time or a bit early.\nBefore the hike, please privately advise the hike leader if you have any concerns, health issues, or severe allergies (this is not mandatory).\nWear sturdy footwear. Hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended. Sneakers of any type are unsuited to wet terrain or rock-hopping and offer no ankle support.\nCarry an adequate backpack to carry water, fruit juice or other fluids (a suggestion of 300 ml/hour per person). DO NOT bring frozen water, it will NOT thaw out during the hike. Food items for a snack/lunch. We will be stopping for a small lunch break.\nA walking stick/pole/staff helps with balance and reduces the risk of falls and sprains.\nFor safety reasons, it’s always a good idea to carry a whistle.\nWear layered clothing suitable for the weather. This would include a hat/cap, gloves, warm fleece, jacket/coat/wind breaker as temperatures would be a bit cooler/colder along the coastline at this time of year. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm with an SPF factor are highly recommended.\nThis is a group hike and participants are advised to stay with the designated hike leader and co-leader, and group for safety reasons.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note this event is weather-dependent. If the hike leader determines the hike must be cancelled, it will be posted on the East Coast Trail’s Facebook page by 7:00 am on the morning of the hike.\n\n\n\n
