Volunteer Opportunity: Vice-President, Marketing and Communications

Position Overview

The Vice-President Marketing & Communications (VP-MC) leads and advises the Association on building awareness of the East Coast Trail (ECT), defining and promoting its offerings and services, expanding its visitor base, generating revenue growth, and enhancing the Associations reputation. The VP-MC  reports directly to the president and serves as a member of the Executive Committee (EC) and the Board of Directors (BOD). The VP-MC is responsible for leading the Marketing & Communications Committee (MCC) and ensuring the committee achieves its goals and deliverables.

Primary Objectives

  • Promote the East Coast Trail as a premier outdoor destination.
  • Engage stakeholders to ensure the Trail’s long-term viability.
  • Facilitate transparent communication within the Association and with the broader community.
  • Raise awareness and build relationships.
  • Grow the Associations following across digital media platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Set the strategic direction for the MCC, aligned with the goals and objectives of the Association, as approved by the EC and the Board of Directors (BOD).
  • Committee Management: Lead and manage the MCC, including recruitment, training, and performance management of committee members.
  • Financial Oversight: Ensure all funds, property, and resources are properly managed and accounted for. Develop and manage the MCC’s annual Work Plan & Budget (WP&B).
  • Program Development & Oversight: Oversee the development and execution of marketing and communication strategies and programs, including digital media, website, newsletters, publications, and visual content production.
  • Operational Management: Ensure that the MCC operates efficiently and effectively, and that all activities comply with ECTA policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the outdoor recreation or tourism industry.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading and motivating teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial management experience, including budget development and oversight.
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of digital media platforms and marketing strategies.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior marketing or communications role.
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial resources.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams of volunteers and/or staff.

Term & Commitment

  • Two-year term, renewable without restrictions.
