Challenges and Work Done on the Southern Shore Trail

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Craig Westcott’s article Staying on top of it, (Irish Loop Post, September 2011) spells out work done on the East Coast Trail south of St. John’s in the 2011 season. The rain and the number of blow-downs were a challenge but the crew and the trail maintenance volunteers still managed to get a lot of trail cleared and accessible to our walkers, hikers and visitors.

“To make sure the path was open for tourists and hikers we had the crew working for almost a month clearing those (winter) blowdowns…” stated Judith Whittick, of the ECTA Operations Team.
