Enhancements and new initiatives will support tourism growth on Avalon Peninsula

June 6, 2015  Mobile, NL  Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

The East Coast Trail Association Inc. (ECTA) will enhance its world class status as a destination trail, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. Senator David Wells, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), announced federal funding of more than $416,000 for the project during the annual East Coast Trail Tely Hike today.

This funding will assist the ECTA with developing a new business model to support the expanding business and revenue generation potential of the trail. Activities will include website changes and branding to improve communications and increase revenue by leveraging current technology in mobility and e-commerce. In addition, the organization will implement a fundraising strategy and a business model monetizing the trail in a responsible and ethical manner.

The Association will also enhance the trail’s world class status as a destination trail by developing a Geographical Information System to support trail management, integrating product development through experiences linked to people, attractions and communities along the trail, and implementing parking solutions at strategic entry sites.
