Low-Maintenance steps cut into the rock …

Thursday, October 21, 2010

There are now low-maintenance steps cut into the rock on Deadmans Bay Path just north of Freshwater Bay.

In March 2010, a storm destroyed the structural walkway at this site, scattering the broken boards onto the barachois. The storm also destroyed the lovely flat stone walkway along the inside of the barachois.

After close examination, it was decided to widen the path and cut the steps rather than do a wooden structural renewal. The trail will be subjected to ocean storms. We must be creative and rebuild for longevity.

At this time, there is no plan to rebuild the flat stone walkway on the barachois. Hikers may cross the barachois with caution, or go around Freshwater Pond to carry on south to Blackhead.
