Press Release: 2023 Trail Raiser Community Hike

June 1, 2023, St. John’s – Join us this Saturday, June 3rd, as we celebrate International Trails Day and the East Coast Trail (ECT), with our members, trail users, the Town of Pouch Cove and all the communities located along the trail.

The East Coast Trail Association (ECTA) invites everyone to join us on Saturday and show your support and love for the ECT. The day will feature six hikes and two trail runs on Stiles Cove Path, Biscan Cove Path, and the White Horse Path. Hikers and runners will join together for a day of community and celebration in support of the ECTA, which manages, maintains, protects, and enhances the 336 kilometres wilderness hiking trail on the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula.

The post-hike party will celebrate all aspects of the ECT community by showcasing local food, including baked beans, toutons, and fish cakes prepared by WaterWitch Restaurant located in Pouch Cove. Plus, our mini concert, which is new this year, will be hosted by Gerri-Lynn Mackey and Ben Murphy from the VOCM Morning Show, and will feature entertainment from Zak Chaulk, Delf Hohmann, Ana & Eric, and Nico Paulo!

This event is all about bringing people and communities together to share their stories. The ECT and  our trail communities are a place for connection, a place to be proud of, a place where everyone becomes part of a connected community.  This year we are pleased to announce that we will be joined by the Ukrainian Hikers NL Team, a group of 50 newcomers to this province and their families, to celebrate International Trails day and new beginnings in Newfoundland & Labrador.

We will award prizes to recognize our top fundraisers and draw prizes for all registered participants, all donated by businesses along the ECT and throughout the province, It will be a day to remember in Pouch Cove, on the East Coast Trail, and you will not want to miss it!
