Proposed Housing Development Ragged Beach, Witless Bay
The East Coast Trail Association, which has developed and maintains the East Coast Trail, opposes the development of housing subdivisions adjacent to the Trail along the coastline of the Avalon Peninsula.
Such developments detract from the Trail’s pristine natural state and deprive both residents of the province and visitors of the enjoyment of the region’s spectacular coastal wilderness experience.
The Association shares the concerns expressed by residents of Witless Bay regarding the impact of this development on the environment of Ragged Beach and on the East Coast Trail. The trail brings economic, social and environmental benefits to the communities through which it passes, benefits that will be undermined by locating housing developments along the East Coast Trail.
About The East Coast Trail Association:
The East Coast Trail Association is a volunteer-run & member based registered charity. The Association’s mission is to develop, maintain and preserve the East Coast Trail while respecting the integrity of our natural environment, the needs of our communities, and delivering a high quality wilderness hiking experience.
The East Coast Trail is a wilderness hiking trail that runs along the coast of the eastern Avalon from Topsail Beach to Trepassey, and in-land across the Avalon from Ferryland to Placentia.
