Respecting the Rights of Landowners

The East Coast Trail Association wishes to remind users of the Trail to respect the rights of landowners located adjacent to the Trail. Too often we receive complaints that people leave the Trail to cross private property, leave garbage on private property, or allow their pets to wander unleashed on private property.

Many property owners have accommodated the Trail on their property. The continued cooperation of such property owners is crucial to the continued use and development of the Trail. These property owners provide access to the coastline as a convenience to users of the Trail. Individuals who leave the Trail pathway to take shortcuts or otherwise invade the privacy of landowners, risk jeopardizing this access.

The East Coast Trail Association therefore strongly encourages users of the Trail to please stay on the Trail, and refrain from infringing on the rights of landowners.
