Volunteer Hike Leaders Needed ! Save the Dates !
Tuesday, March 1, 2016
A new hiking year is about to get underway (April 23) and we want to kick-off the season with a get together of all hike leaders and prospective interested new volunteer hike leaders.
Please join us April 6 in the Community Room of the Howley Estates Sobeys at 7pm where we will have a chance to get reacquainted and meet new volunteers.
Among the issues to be discussed are prior registration for long hikes as well as shorter hikes
that involve a long drive and any other concerns you may have.
These hikes have been a wonderful introduction to the East Coast Trail to visitors, newcomers as well as enjoyable for avid local hikers.
If you know of anyone who is interested in becoming a hike leader or co-leader, please bring them along.
Volunteer hike leaders take part in the planning of the day’s hike; introduce the path and the association; obtain the participants waiver signatures;
assign a sweep for the group; carry the First Aid kit; see that all participants finish the day’s hike as a group; and submit a short report. Leader backpacks and walkie-talkies are available
for use in the volunteer-led guided hikes.
A new hike leader orientation session is planned for Monday, April 11 at the ECTA office at 7pm. Anyone interested in attending the orientation for new hike leaders can contact Marian Dawe at mdawe29@yahoo.ca
