White Horse Path & Piccos Ridge Path: Works in Progress

Sunday, August 30, 2015

Introducing two new paths!

In the fall of 2014 we cut 16 kilometres (km) right-of-way between Cape St. Francis and Portugal Cove. The final result, 32 kms of new trail, fully cut and signed but not yet hardened, adds two new paths to the East Coast Trail system – White Horse Path (Cape St. Francis to Bauline) and Piccos Ridge Path (Bauline to Portugal Cove).

These paths are “undeveloped” and are works in progress at this time.

The rating for both new paths is strenuous – footwear rated for hiking is a must. Structures such as boardwalks, crib steps, etc. have yet to be installed, however ropes have been attached to trees in several locations to aid hiking on steep, slippery slopes.

We strongly recommend hikers acquire a trail map before heading out. Contact the ECTA office for temporary maps.

We are in the process of finalizing hiker parking at Portugal Cove, so, the southern most piece of the Piccos Ridge Path has not been completed. Once this is done, the new path maps will be available for sale, later this fall.

Thanks to the folks of Portugal Cove-St. Philips for their welcome support.
