Spurwink Island Path

Dear Hikers:

The East Coast Trail Association has been informed by the Torbay Harbour Authority of an extended closure of public access to Tapper’s Cove in Torbay.

The closure is necessary to facilitate reconstruction of the wharf and breakwater located in the cove. The closure will be effective as of Monday, April 14, 2025. This is an extensive construction project and it is anticipated public access will be closed for more than 12 months.

As a result, the East Coast Trail must close that section of the trail that crosses through Tapper’s Cove until further notice. Hikers will still be able to use the Father Troy’s Trail by following a detour that reroutes the trail around Tapper’s Cove.

Hikers travelling north towards Flatrock will detour up to Dunphy’s Lane, cross Charles Lane, and then follow Morris Avenue back down to the East Coast Trail. About 1km.

Hikers travelling south towards Torbay will detour up to Morris Avenue, cross Charles Lane, then follow Dunphy’s Lane back down to the East Coast Trail.

Trail closure signage and detour signage will be in place at the designated detour points on the trail.
