Our seasonal paid work crews have been hard at work! Our Trail Crew worked until the middle of November completing the end of season maintenance. We want to extend a big thank you to our seasonal trail crew for all the hard work they did this year, maintaining and enhancing the East Coast Trail – especially the large project completed on Stiles Cove Path earlier in 2023.

This Fall, Trail Crew installed new hiker directional signage and hiker/biker warning signage on the section of Sugarloaf Path ascending from Quidi Vidi to Bawdens Highland. In total, over 50 signs were installed at 30 locations!

The Crew also replaced the crib steps leading to the Silver Mine Head Path from Middle Cove Beach, and completed some emergency repairs to the deteriorated boardwalks near the Cape Spear Path trailhead at Maddox Cove and the Mickeleens Path trailhead at Witless Bay.

We had one final volunteer maintenance outing during the month of November. 13 volunteers brushed and pruned a section of Father Troy’s Trail on November 18th.

Please note our trail crews are off the Trail for the season. Therefore, no trail work or updates will take place throughout the winter (December to April). While we understand that some hikers may still venture onto the trail during this period, be mindful of the diverse conditions you may encounter. If you choose to hike, stay informed about the weather and prepare for varying trail conditions, including blocked paths, snow-covered or icy treadways, and less clear path directions. Exercise caution and use your discretion.
